Announces Product Innovations, New Sales Strategies, Personnel Changes for Ion Exchange Resins and Water Treatment Chemicals
PITTSBURGH, October 16, 1999 - Bayer Corporation's Industrial Chemicals Division today announced enhancements to its ion exchange technology, new sales strategies that enable its ion exchange and water treatment customers to purchase products via e-commerce, and several personnel changes in the ion exchange resins and water treatment chemicals group.
These announcements were made in conjunction with the company's participation in the International Water Conference, October 16-20 at the Westin William Penn Hotel in Pittsburgh. Bayer is sponsoring a suite in the Frick Room, which is located on the Conference Level. The company is also hosting an evening of German food and music on Tuesday, October 19 in the Bayer suite.
Bayer Ion Exchange Technology
Bayer's Industrial Chemicals Division announced several innovations in the company's ion exchange technology that are helping customers modernize their existing water treatment systems. Water treatment plants worldwide have reduced water and regenerant costs using Bayer ion exchange technology.
Bayer has responded to the North American market need of modernization through its upflow/fluidized bed (WS) process - known as the Bayer Schwebebett countercurrent system. Bayer Schwebebett combines packed bed and fluidized bed technology to avoid common problems with packed bed and countercurrent processes that do not use a fluidized bed. In addition to Schwebebett, Bayer has developed four additional ion exchange systems - the VWS, Liftbed, Rinsebed, and Multistep processes, making the company a leading producer of ion exchange systems that are designed to meet all types of customer requirements.
The coupling of the comprehensive range of Lewatit ion exchange resins with counter-current systems has resulted in Bayer developing Lewatit MonoPlus, a new range of monodisperse ion exchange resins. Lewatit MonoPlus resins offer a number of advantages over the alternative heterodisperse resins, including enhanced pressure drop, increased operating capacity, optimized kinetics, and greater mechanical/osmotic/chemical stability. The enhanced performance of Lewatit MonoPlus resins, coupled with a new production plant in Bitterfeld, Germany, gives Bayer the capacity to meet the growing international demand for monodisperse ion exchange resins.
New Sales Strategies for Ion Exchange and Water Treatment Chemicals
Bayer's Industrial Chemicals Division also initiated two significant changes to its sales strategy for ion exchange and water treatment chemicals. The first enables end users to purchase hydrazine water treatment chemicals direct-from-manufacturer. The second is the introduction of a new e-commerce site that enables ion exchange and water treatment customers to purchase products online via the Web.
Bayer is one of the world's largest producers of hydrazine, a process chemical utilized for water treatment in the nuclear, pharmaceutical and agricultural industries. With its vast technology and service resources, Bayer is strategically positioned to enhance customer service and reduce costs through its new sales strategy.
The new direct sales approach also enables Bayer to better manage and utilize ordering, production and delivery through the Bayer-owned and operated large tote fleet, which helps ensure that hydrazine is delivered to customers on time and safely. Bayer's hydrazine is ISO 9002-certified, produced in full compliance with nuclear industry specifications, and includes molar balanced hydrazine.
To complement its new direct sales approach, Bayer has also launched a new e-commerce site, enabling customers in the water treatment industry to purchase water treatment products and ion exchange resins online. The Web-based purchasing strategy is in response to Bayer's commitment to provide its customers with an efficient, cost-effective approach to ordering, production and delivery.
Through its new e-commerce site, Bayer's water treatment products - including hydrazine, Bayhibit® and Lewatit® ion exchange resins - are available for sale through Chemdex, an online agency targeted to specialty chemical suppliers and manufacturers. Customers may purchase Bayer products via www.chemdex.com using either a credit card or procurement card.
Personnel Announcements
In addition to its new products and sales initiatives, Bayer announces three personnel changes within the Industrial Chemicals Division's Ion Exchange and Water Treatment Chemicals Group.
